A few days ago, Paraíba initiated a very weird phenomenon that spread throughout the Northeast and from there to the rest of Brasil, and even a second country – Canada – has been effected. The phenomenon, in the lack of a better way to describe it, was for me understood as Luiza alka seltzer. I explain: when we put an alka seltzer in water, this immediately goes bubbling. The bubbles get bigger, noisy, splashing water all over, but in less than a minute, all the commotion in the water surface goes away. So, we drink it and feel better for a while.
The phenomenon Luiza alka seltzer started with an advertising of an apartment complex. Like other commercials about apartments, it was boring, lacked creativity and originality in content. However, in this specific commercials, Luiza's daddy – the protagonist - initiated the frenzy with a simple sentence that displayed our typical *tupiquinim high society snobbism (see the commercial below in case you hadn’t watch it yet). The exhibitionism of having a daughter living few months in a first world country soon turned into a joke in the social networks, and the first bubbles were blowing up.
Media scholars, psychologists, specialists in human behavior and even philosophers were interviewed to explain the phenomenon through the concept of “meme”, that means the act to imitate. And as the act of copying other ones was always an efficient way to be part of a group, everybody does that once a while even unconsciously. In the case/phenomenon Luiza alka seltzer, the imitation was so massive that companies, artists, medias and even politicians had started to say “Luiza who is in Canada” as it would add value to themselves, their products and services. The bubbles were big and noisy like crazy.
In the truth, what the phenomenon Luiza alka seltzer represents is the desperation of getting better in this world-wide economic crisis – just like the effect of an alka seltzer that makes us to feel better for a while. Luiza, being or not in Canada, could generate some extra money and fifteen minutes of fame. But the 17 years old teen who interrupted her studies in Canada to be bubbling in Brasil does not have the power to save the economy of a state or a country, not even launch others or her own popularity to the sky. And that is when the bubbles dissolve for good.

Poucos dias atrás Paraíba iniciou um fenômeno estranhíssimo que se alastrou para o Nordeste e de lá para todo o Brasil, e até mesmo um segundo país – Canadá – foi parcialmente infectado. O fenômeno, na falta de uma explicação melhor, foi por mim compreendido como Luíza sonrisal. Eu explico. Quando soltamos uma pastilha sonrisal na água, isso imediatamente começa a borbulhar. As bolhas vão ficando maiores, mais barulhentas, espirrando água para todos os lados, mas, com menos de um minuto, tudo se dissolve.
O fenômeno Luíza sonrisal iniciou com um comercial de um prédio de apartamentos como tantos outros: enfadonho, sem criatividade, texto um tanto quanto sem originalidade. Mas diferente dos outros comerciais, nesse, o protagonista e pai de Luíza lançou a pastilha na água quando disparou uma pérola do pedantismo high society tupiquinim (assista ao comercial abaixo, se é que você não já o viu). O exibicionismo de ter uma filha vivendo uns poucos meses em um país de primeiro mundo logo virou motivo de piada nas redes sociais. Eram as primeiras bolhas que começavam a estourar.
Sábios da mídia, psicólogos, especialistas em comportamento e até filósofos explicaram o fenômeno através do conceito de meme, palavra que deriva da grega mimeses, e que significa o ato de imitar. E como copiar uma ação pode ser um bom meio de fazer parte de um grupo, todo mundo faz isso de vez em quando, mesmo que não se dê conta. No caso/fenômeno Luíza sonrisal, a imitação foi tão massiva que empresas, artistas, meios de comunicação e até políticos começaram a encaixar “Luíza que está no Canadá” nas suas ações, como se isso fosse uma agregação de valor aos seus serviços, produtos ou posição social.
Na verdade, o que o fenômeno Luíza sonrisal representa é mesmo o desespero de chamar atenção e se diferenciar em um mercado mergulhado em uma crise econômica mundial. Luíza, estando ou não no Canadá, pode até render um dinheirinho extra e uma popularidade passageira; mas uma adolescente de 17 anos que interrompeu seu intercâmbio cultura para borbulhar numa sociedade medíocre e sem originalidade não tem como salvar a economia de um estado ou um país. E lá se vão as bolhinhas se desmanchando para sempre.
